Dr. Fiona Schmiegelow

Professor and Director, Northern ENCS Program. Wildlife and landscape ecology; conservation science.

My Research Interest

My principal interests lie in the broad-scale effects of land-use policies and practices on wildlife and ecosystems, with an emphasis on northern systems in Canada.  I am committed to applied research that involves government, industry, and environmental organizations as partners, thereby ensuring the relevance of the research questions to conservation and management concerns, and facilitating the implementation of research at appropriate scales.  Promotion of research as an integral component of active adaptive management has allowed me to design and implement several large-scale experimental field studies, and sustain long-term data collection within these frameworks.  A significant thrust of my ongoing research also involves collaborative work to assemble and analyze large data sets to explore the probable outcomes of a variety of natural resource policy and management scenarios.
